Precision Feshbach spectroscopy of ultracold Cs2

چکیده
We have observed and located more than 60 magnetic field-induced Feshbach resonances in ultracold collisions of ground-state Cs atoms. Multiple extremely weak Feshbach resonances associated with g-wave molecular states are detected through variations in the radiative collision cross sections. The Feshbach spectroscopy allows us to determine the interactions between ultracold cesium atoms and the molecular energy structure near the dissociation continuum with unprecedented precision. Our work not only represents a very successful collaboration of experimental and theoretical efforts, but also provides essential information for cesium Bose-Einstein condensation, Cs2 molecules, and atomic clock experiments.

Precision molecular spectroscopy for ground state transfer of molecular quantum gases.
One possibility for the creation of ultracold, high phase space density quantum gases of molecules in the rovibronic ground state relies on first associating weakly-bound molecules from quantum-degenerate atomic gases on a Feshbach resonance and then transferring the molecules via several steps of coherent two-photon stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) into the rovibronic ground state. ...
متن کاملObservation of an Efimov resonance in an ultracold mixture of atoms and weakly bound dimers
We discuss our recent observation of an atom-dimer Efimov resonance in an ultracold mixture of Cs atoms and Cs2 Feshbach molecules [Nature Phys. 5, 227 (2009)]. We review our experimental procedure and present additional data involving a non-universal g-wave dimer state, to contrast our previous results on the universal s-wave dimer. We resolve a seeming discrepancy when quantitatively comparin...
متن کاملFeshbach spectroscopy and analysis of the interaction potentials of ultracold sodium
We have studied magnetic Feshbach resonances in an ultracold sample of Na prepared in the absolute hyperfine ground state. We report on the observation of three s-, eight d-, and three g-wave Feshbach resonances, including a more precise determination of two known s-wave resonances, and one s-wave resonance at a magnetic field exceeding 200 mT. Using a coupled-channels calculation we have impro...
متن کاملUltracold photoassociation spectroscopy: Long-range molecules and atomic scattering
Photoassociation is the process in which two colliding atoms absorb a photon to form an excited molecule. The development of laser-cooling techniques for producing gases at ultracold !!1 mK" temperatures allows photoassociation spectroscopy to be performed with very high spectral resolution. Of particular interest is the investigation of molecular states whose properties can be related, with hi...
متن کاملEfficient creation of molecules from a cesium Bose-Einstein condensate
– We report a new scheme to create weakly bound Cs2 molecules from an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate. The method is based on switching the magnetic field to a narrow Feshbach resonance and yields a high atom-molecule conversion efficiency of more than 30%, a factor of three higher than obtained with conventional magnetic-field ramps. The Cs2 molecules are created in a single g-wave rotational ...
